The Development Commission is established through City Code (3105.01 and 3105.03) and is appointed by the mayor with the approval of council. The commission holds two types of meetings – zoning and policy. Zoning meetings are staffed by the Building and Zoning Services Department and involve consideration of zoning map amendment applications. Policy meetings are staffed by the Planning Division and include consideration of such things as proposed land use plans, zoning overlays, area wide rezonings, code changes and development policy. The Development Commission policy meetings serve as a public hearing opportunity regarding such proposals. Development Commission recommendations are non binding and are forwarded to City Council for their consideration.

Meetings:
Policy meetings are generally held as needed on the 4th Thursday of each month, with the exception of November and December. Meetings begin at 6:00pm and are typically conducted in the Department of Development’s first floor hearing room at 109 North Front Street.

Applications:
Items considered by the Development Commission at their policy meetings are limited to staff submittals.
