2008 Program Guidelines

The Deaf Modification Program provides modifications to the homes of persons with hearing impairments to increase the independent living opportunities in their homes. The addition of the specialized equipment allows the hearing impaired person to live or continue to live in his/her home or apartment and fosters dignity and self-respect through the ability to make decisions and manage one's own life.

Geographic Location and Eligible Properties

Eligible locations and properties are: owner-occupied residential properties and rental units located within the corporate limits of the City of Columbus and in need of equipment to increase safety and accessibility in the home. Permission of an investor owner is required for rental units.

Eligible Households

An applicant must be an individual who is hearing impaired, or a household with a family member who is hearing impaired. Eligible households include families/households earning 80% or less than the area median income (AMI) adjusted for family size, as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
