A zoning overlay does not change a property’s zoning. An
overlay works in conjunction with the underlying zoning
district to provide additional standards for such things as
building setbacks, screening, lighting and graphics. The
focus of the open house will be for property owners to ask
questions or provide comments relative to the proposed
Community Commercial Overlay.
The adoption of the Community Commercial Overlay on Broad and Main streets is a priority of the Eastmoor Main and Broad Corridor Revitalization Area Plan, which was adopted by City Council on April 9, 2007. The map below reflects the plan’s recommendation and our preliminary assessment of the general boundaries which would be covered by the overlay.
Commercial zoning overlays are applied to areas of Columbus as a means of addressing community planning and design priorities. These designations work in conjunction with underlying zoning districts to provide additional standards for such things as building setback, screening, lighting and graphics. Please refer to the brochure for the Proposed Commercial Overlays on Main and Broad for additional information.
